INTRODUCTION Psoriasis is a chronic, recurrent, common, hereditary disfiguring disease of the skin. Clinically, it consists of itchy, well-defined, pink or dull-red lesions of various sizes, shapes and thickness with silver scaling, mainly involving symmetrically the extensor aspects of the body, nails and the scalp. The early lesions are usually guttate, erythematous macules or papules with silver scales. These patches increase in size and thickness by peripheral extension and coalescence. These scales are micaceous being looser at the periphery and adherent at the centre. Sometimes these patches may go on to involve the whole body resulting in a state known as erythroderma. Arthritis is quite a common association of this disease. The exact aetiology is unknown. But psoriasis has been studied from various angles, i.e. genetic, immunological, biochemical, and kinetic techniques have been used in an attempt to find the cause. The disease is sometimes incited by certain factors that provoke a psoriatic reaction in the predisposed person. The potential provocative stimuli are trauma, infection, light, climate, metabolic drugs, and emotional and psychological factors like emotional stress. The reported incidence of psoriasis in hospitals from India and abroad varies from less than 1% to 5.6%. Many treatment schedule and drugs have been tried to control psoriasis. PET and SPECT studies revealed the preferential involvement of the frontotemporal regions in FTD. Jeong et al. 73 ; demonstrated a decrease in glucose metabolism in extensive cortical regions, such as the frontal and anterior temporal areas, cingulate gyri, uncus, and insula, and subcortical areas, including the basal ganglia and medial thalamic regions; this metabolic feature may help to differentiate FTD from AD or other causes of dementia. Tapenem, on co-stimulatory molecule expression was examined in vitro and in vivo. Methods: Spleen cells obtained from BALB c mice 10 days after immunisation with 8.0 lg of haemocyanin absorbed to 4.0 mg of aluminium hydroxide were cultured in the presence of 100.0 lg ml of haemocyanin and various concentrations of ertapenem. We examined the influence of ertapenem on cell activation by examining the proliferative response of cells and cytokine production. We also examined the influence of ertapenem on co-stimulatory molecule CD40, CD80 and CD86 ; expressions on cultured splenic B-lymphocytes induced by in vitro antigenic stimulation using flow cytometry. Splenic B lymphocytes were obtained from these mice 24 h after antigenic challenge, and co-stimulatory molecule expressions were examined by flow cytometer. Results: Cell activation induced by in vitro antigenic stimulation was suppressed by ertapenem when cells were cultured in the presence of more than 1.0 lg ml of the agent. Addition of ertapenem at a concentration of 0.5 lg ml into cell cultures also suppressed co-stimulatory molecule CD40, CD80 and CD86 ; expressions on splenic B lymphocytes, which was enhanced by antigenic stimulation in vitro. Ertapenem administration for 4 weeks clearly suppressed the enhancement of CD40 and CD86 but not CD80 ; expressions on splenic B lymphocytes induced by antigenic stimulation in vivo. This suppressive activity of ertapenem on co-stimulatory molecule CD40 and CD86 ; expressions was further strengthened by the treatment of mice for 8 weeks. Long-term treatment with ertapenem also suppressed CD80 expressions, which was not suppressed by 4-week treatment. Conclusion: The present results suggest that ertapenem exerts its immunomodulating effects through suppression of both cell activation and co-stimulatory molecule expressions induced by antigenic stimulation. These suppressive activities of ertapenem might contribute, in part, to the therapeutic mode of action of ertapenem on inflammatory diseases and esomeprazole.

They usually sell out the herbs after few days' collection and again set out for further collection. They generally sell the total household collection together. But cases have been found in Kullu district where each member of the household sells his or her collection separately and keep separate account.7 Minor members of the household and female members sell their collected HMPs jointly. Even if they sell the collected items separately, the head of the household get a stipulated portion from each member of the household. The collectors of a Shimla village informed that in their village people sell out their collected jadibuti separately but the heads of the households receive two-thirds of the earning from every member.8 Apart from the organised trade network the herbs are also being sold in the open herb markets. In a village in Chamba district, villagers even walk upto ten kilometres for selling of their collected herbs. 9 4.2.6 Problems Faced by Villagers Across the Region in Collection and Marketing of Herbs In the course of data collection, some of the selected village clusters were visited by our research team and arranged Focused Group Discussions with the villagers. RESULTS This study concerns a controlled trial of Geriforte in twenty five cases of Involutional Depression. Patients presented to us complained mainly of somatic symptoms and on interrogation, could not pinpoint any precipitating event for the depression.
